The Guiding Light Foundation is dedicated to helping students achieve academic excellence by offering tutoring and mentoring. We are working with educators to build an after school curriculum that will provide the tools to encourage and help our youth accomplish their academic goals.
PLEASE CLICK ON THE "GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CHILD" TAB BELOW AND FILL OUT THE QUESTIONNAIRE. THIS WILL HELP US KNOW MORE ABOUT YOUR CHILD AND THEIR ACADEMIC NEEDS.
Program begins at 4pm. Supervision will not be available prior to 15 minutes before scheduled start time. Students should not arrive at the program facility before 3:45pm, unless other arrangements have been made with the Program Director or an authorized staff member. Students must sign in upon arrival.
Classes are dismissed as scheduled. Parents are responsible for picking up students promptly at 6pm. Your child will be released only to authorized parties. Students must sign out before leaving. Any other arrangements must be approved by Program Director or an authorized staff member. Any request for other arrangements must be requested in writing/email. GLF is not responsible for supervision of students before or after program ends.
A late charge of $5 per 15 minutes will be charged ten minutes after program is dismissed. Payment will be due when your child is picked up. Please make arrangements with your authorized person to pick up your child on time, if you are unable to pick up your child at 6pm. Remember, our staff are volunteers, they have families and other responsibilities outside of our program. Let's please respect their time.
If a child is not picked up at all:
1. We will try to contact the parent/guardian.
2. We will call emergency contacts.
3. If a student has not been picked up one hour after program closes, the police will have to be contacted. The police will then have to contact Social Services and the child will have to be taken to a local shelter.
1. Students must dress appropriately for all program activities.
2. Students should not wear halter tops, open mesh or see through clothing, bare midriff's or cutoff's, etc.
3. Sagging is NOT acceptable.
4. Pants must be worn at waistline.
5. No inappropriate clothing advising or promoting the use of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc.
Students are not allowed to use cell phones or other electronic devices during program activities because of the distraction it may pose for other students and staff members. If your child violate's this rule, their device will be confiscated and you must pick up your child's electronic device from the program director or authorized staff member. Also note, the after school program/facility is NOT responsible for lost or stolen personal items.

THE GLF tutors and mentors offers help with homework, teaches students how to prepare for test and other academic challenges. The after school literacy program offers academic support to assist students with IMPROVING reading and/or writing skills. Keeping Kids Fed provides healthy snacks for the students. The GLF After School Program is for students ages 6-14.
This time will be used to feed the kids and complete attendance/check in
This time will be used to help students with homework, study for test and re-teaching of skills.
This time will be used for small rotation centers: Reading, Math, Computer activities, Board Games, Flash Cards, Puzzles, Arts & Crafts and Study Hall for students that need additional time/ help with homework.

CHECK IN PROCEDURE:
Students will be required to wear name tags, parents will also be given a name tag to use to verify student at pick up time. Visitors will also be required to wear name tag.
IN CASE YOUR CHILD IS SICK:
If your child shows signs of being sick:
1. They must be separated from the other students
2. The parent(s) or guardian(s) must be notified
3. The child must not return until a doctor's note has been provided, stating that is okay for your child to return to the program.
4. Parents should make sure that an updated Emergency Form is on file, in case we are unable to contact you
If a child is diagnosed with a communicable illness, the program is required to notify the local or State Department of Health, as well as all parents and guardians of children in our care. Your child's confidentiality will be protected.
SPECIAL NEEDS:
Please make sure to let staff know if your child has special needs, so that we can accommodate appropriately.
DISPLINE POLICY:
The purpose of this policy is to help students to develop good character, self control and learn how to work with others.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES!!
THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS ARE CAUSE FOR DISMISSAL:
1. Causing or attempting to cause damage to ANY property!!
2. STEALING OR ATTEMPTING TO STEAL PROPERTY!!
3. Refusing to participate in learning process.
4. Behavior which negatively affects the academic process and/or success of self or others.
5. Teasing other because of the way that they dress, speak or look.
6. Behavior that threatens the welfare and safety of other students, staff or volunteers.
7. BULLYING!!
The Program Director attempt to meet with the student and the parent(s)/ guardian(s) to inform them of the disciplinary action(s) before dismissing the student.
PARENTS RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD READS AT LEAST FOUR TIMES PER WEEK
2. READ TO YOUR CHILD AT LEAST FOUR TIMES PER WEEK
3. REVIEW MATH FACTS WITH YOUR CHILD AT LEAST FOUR TIMES PER WEEK (30 MINUTES EACH TIME)
4. MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD ARRIVES TO THE AFTER SCHOOL TUTOR/MENTOR PROGRAM ON TIME.
5. TALK TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT BEING READY TO LEARN.
6. PICK YOUR CHILD UP PROMPTLY AT 6PM
7. ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD!!
ORIENTATION (TBA)
Parents and students are expected to attend orientation, between 4pm - 6pm. Snacks will be served.
Family Night
All parents and families are expected to attend Family Night. (TBA)
Volunteering
Parents are required to provide (4) hours of service during the school year. You can volunteer on or off site. Please contact the Program Director to discuss your availability.
Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. Students are expected to attend each day that the program is in session. The students that have perfect attendance will be awarded for excellent attendance.

Students are expected to be punctual to the program. If your student is not in the classroom at the designated starting time, they will be considered tardy. Students who are trying to get perfect attendance will only be allowed to get two tardies per quarter.
